Healing Nature I - The Ocean
The past few years have been challenging both personally and globally. In this time of unrest and uncertainty, I’ve leaned into the healing ability of nature to soothe my soul and bring balance to my life. Whether it’s the quiet of a spring forest, the stillness of a winter meadow or an early morning at the ocean, time within nature has brought peace and healing to my spirit that I’ve desperately needed. Naturally, when it came to curating my recent photography in preparation to launch my new website, this time in nature is evident in my portfolio. What surprised me a little was that the peacefulness, the healing, the joy conveyed in so many of the images. Thus the “Healing Nature” collections were born, not out of pre-planning but out of a desire to share the peace and healing.
The first of these collections “Healing Nature I – The Ocean” reflects the moods and temperament of the waters off Vancouver Island. From dark and moody to bright and sunny, I find solace in the ever-constant changes of the ocean.

Healing Nature I - The Ocean
There's something magical about camping on a beach. The crash of the waves and the cool salt air always ensures that I sleep well and wake early. And when I wake with a rainbow over the water greeting me, you can bet that the coffee can wait (there's not much that can delay my first cup of joe).
Reflections was captured while the rest of the campers still snoozed in their tents, as I happily roamed the beach with my camera capturing the rainbow from several angles before it faded.

Misty Evening is a great demonstration of how fast the weather can change on Vancouver Island. Within minutes the day went from a warm sunny afternoon, to a cool evening shrouded in fog. While spending a lazy afternoon exploring the beach while camping on the Juan de Fuca trail, a fog bank rolled in from the Pacific Ocean.

It isn't often that I include people in my nature photography. Solitude is an exception. Shot on a beach near Comox at dusk, I was struck by the peaceful solitude of this unknown individual paddling into the evening.
